Work

At Transfer Galaxy, I was tasked with designing a bank teller portal for one of their offshore banking partners. Collaborating closely with the CFO, CLO, and on-site representatives, I defined requirements and ensured compliance with KYC regulations. The solution included a front-end portal for tellers and an admin system for managing money movement and reconciliation.

Once the design work was well underway, I transitioned into a project management role, coordinating between Transfer Galaxy’s internal engineering team and external vendors to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.

Defining requirements

To kick off the project, I worked with the CFO, CLO, and on-site stakeholders to determine the scope and requirements of the portal. Using user journey mapping, we identified key workflows for bank tellers, ensuring that every step met KYC and regulatory compliance. These workshops provided a clear structure for both the front-end and admin systems, aligning stakeholders on project goals.

Designing the teller and admin systems

The teller portal was a completely new system for Transfer Galaxy’s banking partner, and I was tasked with translating their branding and visual style into a lightweight, web-based interface. The company’s in-house designer provided branding guidelines, which I adapted to meet the unique needs of this web-based solution—a departure from their existing app-focused design work.

Considering the target market and the system’s offshore use, I prioritized low-bandwidth delivery. This involved styling elements in code rather than relying on heavy graphics, leveraging my background as a developer to make smart, lightweight choices that ensured performance across varying connection speeds.

Testing the system also presented unique challenges, as the users had a very low level of English proficiency. I conducted remote usability tests, focusing on universal design principles such as intuitive icons, clear call-to-action buttons, and simplified workflows. This ensured the system was accessible and easy to navigate for the bank tellers who would use it daily.

For the accompanying admin system, I maintained the same focus on clarity and efficiency, designing interfaces for managing money movement and reconciliation that were both functional and user-friendly. Together, these systems addressed the distinct needs of both customer-facing and backend users, delivering a cohesive and effective solution.

Taking ownership of delivery

As the design phase progressed, I transitioned into a project management role to ensure the successful implementation of both the teller and admin systems. For the bank teller portal, we collaborated with an external developer to build the frontend. I provided detailed handovers and regular feedback to maintain alignment with the design vision, ensuring the final product met both user and technical requirements.

For the admin system, I worked directly with Transfer Galaxy’s CTO to plan and manage its delivery. Together, we broke down the complex requirements into manageable chunks, creating clear, actionable tasks for the internal engineering team. This structured approach not only streamlined the development process but also ensured the team could execute efficiently and without confusion.

The close collaboration with both the external developer and Transfer Galaxy’s in-house team made for a smooth and pain-free delivery, resulting in a robust and cohesive solution that addressed the needs of both bank tellers and administrative staff.

Outcomes

  1. Seamless user journeys

Designed and delivered intuitive systems for both bank tellers and admin users, addressing compliance needs while enhancing usability.

  2. Effective stakeholder alignment

Mapped user journeys and collaborated across teams to ensure the solution met both user and regulatory requirements.

  3. Successful delivery coordination

Maintained a 4.5-star rating on the App Store and a 4.8/5 customer satisfaction score in support.

Micke is a fantastically warm person who I would deeply recommend for anyone to work with. In addition to being a fantastic person, Micke is also very talented and skilled. Micke was brought in as a product/UX design for a short-term project, but ended up being de facto project leader.

He is an extremely good communicator; during the project he both led developers and communicated with external and internal stakeholders. One of the key qualities I found with Micke is that he easily grasped the “full picture” and aligned the processes with overall business goals. After the short-term project was finished, we happily extended Micke’s contract and we would have wished to keep him for longer.
